Calendula - Orange - Calendula officinalis
Annual These orange flowers tolerate heat, and bloom from early summer through light frosts and light snow in autumn. Use as a coloring substitute for saffron in cooking, as an edible flower with a nutty flavor, or as an ingredient in skin creams.
Did You Know? Also known as Pot Marigold, although it is not related to the common marigold Tagetes spp.
Soil and Water: Grows best in well drained, loamy soil with a moderate amount of water.
Planting and Growing: Plant directly in garden soil, or start indoors and transplant.
Harvesting and Storage: Once flowers are open they can be harvested. Although petals dry quickly, the entire flower head will take at least a week in a drying oven.
