(Cucurbita pepo) Introduced in 1893 and improved by Gill Brothers Seeds by 1917, this heirloom pumpkin is prized for its deep orange, slightly netted skin and sweet, tender flesh. Fruits average 6½ inches tall, 8 inches wide, and weigh about 6½ pounds. Celebrated for its exceptional pie quality, Amy Goldman calls it “the smoothest and most velvety pumpkin pie I’ve ever had” in The Compleat Squash. A standout variety for both flavor and texture.
