(Phaseolus lunatus) Reported to be of Native American origin and introduced by SESE in 1990, this is our hardiest lima bean. The heat- and drought-resistant plants produce medium-sized, dark maroon-red seeds, with 2–4 beans per pod. It retains a wild trait—some pods will spring open (shatter) when completely dry. A resilient and visually striking variety for gardeners in challenging climates.
