Growing tips

🌱Direct sow or transplant in spring after last frost, or start in midsummer for a fall crop. Collards are one of the most heat and cold tolerant greens you can grow — nearly year-round in mild climates.

✂️Harvest outer leaves from the bottom up, leaving the growing tip intact. Plants will continue producing new leaves from the center all season long for a continuous cut-and-come-again harvest.

💧Water consistently and fertilize with nitrogen every 3 to 4 weeks. Collards are heavy feeders — rich soil and regular feeding produce the largest, most flavorful leaves.

🍽️Slow-braise with smoked meat and onions for a classic Southern preparation, sauté with garlic and olive oil, or use large leaves as wraps. Younger leaves are tender enough for raw salads.
