Growing tips

🌱Direct sow after last frost when soil is warm, or start indoors 3 to 4 weeks early. Plant in hills of 2 to 3 seeds and thin to the strongest plant. Gourds need a long, warm season to mature fully.

🌿Give vines plenty of room to sprawl, or train them up a sturdy trellis to save space and keep gourds off the ground. Trellised gourds often develop more uniform shapes.

💧Water consistently through the growing season, then reduce watering as gourds approach maturity. Dry conditions at the end of the season help harden the rinds for longer-lasting decorations.

🍂Harvest when stems have fully dried and turned brown. Cure in a warm, dry, well-ventilated spot for several weeks. Wipe with a diluted bleach solution to prevent mold during curing.
