Growing tips

🌱Direct sow in early spring or late summer for a fall crop. Turnips are fast and cold-hardy — sow 6–8 weeks before first frost for roots that sweeten beautifully after a frost or two.

🪴Sow thinly and thin to 4–6" apart once seedlings are established. These are large-bulbing turnips — adequate spacing is essential for developing the impressive 5–8" globes this variety is known for.

💧Water consistently for smooth, crack-free roots. Uneven moisture leads to woody texture. Mulch around plants to retain soil moisture and keep the root zone cool during warmer spells.

🍲Cube and add to stews and pot roasts for deep, earthy flavor, roast with olive oil and thyme, or slice thin and eat raw with a dip. The greens are also edible — harvest young for a bonus crop of nutritious turnip greens.
