(Cucurbita pepo) This acorn-type winter squash is a family heirloom from Thelma Sanders of Adair County, Missouri, and was introduced by SESE in 1988. The cream-colored fruits ripen to a light gold, a trait that helps prevent sunscald in the Deep South. Squash reach up to 6 inches long and have thick, golden yellow flesh with a fine texture and exceptional flavor that sweetens in storage. Known for its vigor in trials and included in Slow Food USA’s Ark of Taste, this variety is both productive and delicious.
